Bottlenose Dolphins
Payton McCallister
Habitat Location
Bottlenose dolphins live in very warm, tropical waters throughout the whole world. This includes Baltic sea, Pacific ocean, and Atlantic ocean. Some live close to shore, while some live very far from mainland. Also, they don't go very deep into the ocean most of the time, they live and feed near the surface.
Distribution/living requirements
Bottlenose dolphins are limited to surface water temperatures of 10° to 32°C. Therefore, they are the most abundant dolphin species along the United States coast from Cape Cod through the Gulf of Mexico. They are pretty evenly distributed and can be found practically anywhere anywhere with tropical waters within this range.
Also, although there is a very even distribution of these animals the greatest living requirement is that they have to live with one another, in groups. They communicate much like humans, and NEED one another to survive. They come in packs of about 15 most of the time.
Other living requirements include:
-
Must migrate for changing water temperatures
-
Must have constant fish source for food
-
Must be able o find mate easily to reproduce
Human Impact
-
Humans are one of Dolphins only predators, so without us there would be much more
-
Harmful gases kill dolphins by polluting the waters.
-
Dolphins get killed by motor boats
-
Tangled in human debris, such as tuna fishing nets
-
Humans making loud noises near dolphins will also kill them
