Origin

Common name:  Bottle nose dolphin

Meaning:  a small gregarious toothed whale that typically has a beak like snout and a curved fin on the back.

Who named it:  Originated in Greece

Why:  Because in Greek it meant "fish with womb"

Where:  Earliest specices of dolphins were discovered in japan as fossils

When:  Originated 8-13 million years ago

It is generally believed that all marine mammals, including dolphins, evolved from land based ancestors around 50-60 million years ago
